The Surabaya City Education Office (Dispendik) together with Tunas Hijau held a "Family Tree Planting 2020" tree planting at the Bozem Wonorejo Embankment, Sunday (02/16/2020). This activity was attended by students and parents.
Tunas Hijau Senior Activist Mochamad Zamroni said that this activity was not the first time it had been held. The last time was carried out in 2013 by the Prince and Princess of the Environment 2012 to realize the Harmony Park in the land of the former landfill site of Keputih waste.
"The Prince and Princess of the Environment for the first time held this Family Tree Planting to realize the first urban forest in the Kalimas stren across from Grand City Surabaya," he said.
While Family Tree Planting 2020, continued Zamroni, involved the Prince and Princess of the Environment 2019 family. Each participating family brought at least one tree to be planted at that location.
"There are 5 special awards from the Mayor of Surabaya provided for this activity, namely: the family with the most trees brought, the family with the rarest trees brought, and the family with the most members participating. There is also an award category for families with the biggest trees brought and schools with the most families participating, "he explained.
One of the students' parents, Ria Mahmudah, revealed that this activity really educates students, especially parents, who care about the environment. Parents should not look down upon mangroves or trees that stand on the beach. The existence of mangrove forests has a million benefits for humans and the environment.
"In addition to functioning as a barrier and prevention of abrasion, mangrove forests are also fortresses against the threat of tidal waves (tsunamis) and life support for marine life and plants," said the woman from Ngronggot District, Nganjuk Regency who works in Surabaya.
Ria added, this kind of activity is very good for fostering a sense of love for the environment and the most important thing is that it can bond the love between parents and children. He thanked Tunas Hijau Indonesia for initiating this activity.
